History of Japanese cars in Indonesia

The appearance of the cars made by Japanese State in the territory of Indonesia is arguably spectacular. At present first time, not a car with a sedan version, but the type jeep.
Is Toyota Land Cruiser jeep, car production sunrise State who first arrived in Indonesia. This vehicle is very popular at that time, even former President Suharto, using Toyota Land Cruiser jeeps which were "roof canvas" as the main vehicle while serving as Commander of the Army Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad) in 1965.

Then followed by a Nissan Patrol jeep. Both cars used in the military, police, mining, and plantation at the time of President Sukarno's downfall.
At the beginning of its presence, jeep-jeep made in Japan it must compete with jeep GAZ (Russian-made), Jeep Land Rover (made in England), and the jeeps made in the United States, like Willy's, Ford, International, and Cherokee, which had no more first. Later also appear Mitsubishi jeep, a figure similar to Willy's jeep.
Japanese-made sedans come later, ie after the New Order government was standing around in 1968 and started many circulating around the year 1970.
Sedan cars made in Japan at the moment it does look frail and thin body, and therefore its presence is not immediately accepted by consumers in Indonesia are already accustomed to using cars made in Europe and the United States who berbodi solid, such as: Fiat of Italy, Austin, Morris, and Land Rover from the UK, Opel, Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes Benz of Germany, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, Chrysler, Dodge of the United States, Peugeot and Citroen of France, and Holden of Australia.
Over time, it is evident that the Japanese-made cars that were reliable and cheap and easy to maintain.
Now the Japanese-made cars have dominated Indonesia's automotive market. At this moment it seems no one else in Indonesia roads that are not dominated by motor vehicles made in Japan, be it motorcycle, sedan, hatchback, minivan, multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), utility vehicle (UV), sport utility vehicle ( SUV), jeep, bus, or truck.
The dominance of Japanese-made motor vehicles in Indonesia this did not happen in a short time, nearly 40 years this process through. Almost all Japanese car brands start since the 1960's, such as:
  • TOYOTA, originally appeared with the kind of Land Cruiser jeep, followed by some kind of sedan that comes with the name of the Toyopet, among others Toyopet Crown. However, because the name is not accepted in the United States because it is considered as an abbreviation of the toy (toys) and pet (pets), re-use the Toyota name
